Fail, for crying out loud!

Have you ever thought about doing something or maybe even started it, but then convinced yourself you couldn’t do it? I have so been there.

How many of those times do I sit and regret my decision to not try something? Almost every time. Let’s say 99.9% of the time.

Why then, do I, and why do you not do that thing you are scared of?

Is there a logical reason for you to be afraid. Are you going to lose your arm if you try it? Are you going to die? Is your reputation at risk? These are probably good reasons to be freaked out… but chances are, you don’t want to do it because you are afraid of failure.

Well, that is crap. I’m sorry. Don’t put yourself there.

If you have taken the step to start your own business, or if you are considering whether it is worth the risk; there is one little thing you should know. Successful business people take risks all the time. Yes, sometimes they are educated risks–but honestly!

Think of one successful business person you admire. Anyone!! Seriously, do it!

Did the person you think of get where they are by sitting on their couch and twiddling their thumbs? Did they come to their success by doing the same thing everyone else does?
Have they decided to take risks?

I challenge you to find one person who is considered a successful business person who didn’t at some point have to make a decision that could have skyrocketed them to success or face-planted them with failure…

YOU stand out by doing something different from all the rest. We all know that. But with different comes unknown, uncharted territory.

I challenge you, and myself really, to stop being afraid of failure and take that step of faith. If you fail once or twice or three thousand times, pick yourself up off the ground and try again. Tweak ideas and get better.

It’s worth the risk.

HELP ME: I’m not all here!!!

Maybe you’ve heard the quote by Jim Elliot? “Wherever you are, be all there.”

I grew up with these words constantly falling upon my ears.

It’s not easy, though the words are simple enough.

Lately, I’ve been thinking about a parallel idea that can be applied to everything. Simply stated it is this: Whatever you do, do it 100%. It just forces you to be just slightly introspective. 😉 My thoughts right now: “Ahhhh, no!! I’m too stinkin’ comfortable! I don’t want too!!!!! >:(” But why should I take an idea that could catapult my creative business and throw it out the window?! So I’m choosing to not ignore it.

What will happen if we really apply this idea to our lives?

It means no more mediocrity. No more mediocre descriptions. No more mediocre pictures. No more mediocre blog posts. 😐 No more mediocre products in my online shop. No more mediocre goals!

Will you join me in this new way of thinking??? Let’s leave laziness and blah-ness behind! Let’s do this! Starting now!

A Cure for Blindness

Descriptions. They are tricky little animals.

Are you guilty of that one-line? Maybe something like this…

“This is a pair of leaf earrings. They are gold and made of polymer clay.”

I’ve been guilty of it too. And I’m by no means perfect now either. But I think it’s something we should stop and consider for a moment. If you came across something new on the web {anywhere really} and the description sounded like this, would you consider buying it? Would those considered the very best in sales be able to get away with the same?

Chances are you would move on rather quickly. Why? Well, here are a few possible reasons…

  1. You don’t know enough about it.
  2. You can’t interact with the item or service.
  3. It seems unprofessional.
  4. You make no connection with the seller.
  5. It doesn’t set the seller apart from all the rest.

If you’re one of the offenders, don’t worry. First, almost all of us have been there at some point. Second, you can most definitely take steps leaps of progress.

Here are a few little tips to get you headed in the right direction!

  • Thoroughly explain the item as if you were describing it to someone who couldn’t see.
  • Use words that you have used to tag your items {if you sell on a platform such as etsy} in your item description.
  • Tell a story that relates to the item, how it should be used, or how it makes you feel.
  • Consider your target market. What will grab them?
  • Don’t be drab. Find your own voice, and use it. Original style stands out–even in something as small as an item description.

If you need to, go work on it now!!! It isn’t easy at first, but it becomes much easier with practice; so keep at it!
